Botanical Illusion challenges the visual image. Employing multiple techniques from screen printing to hand manipulations overlapping one another, alters how we ‘see’ surface design. Contrasting fine hand illustrated linear artwork against large abstract shapes that have been created with thick and textural brush strokes. Introducing thick canvas bases, rough tactile cottons, loose jacquard weaves and fine silky materials. Irregular and uneven surface manipulations such as embroidery, digital print and applique techniques disguises and distorts the form. Appearing visually simple from far away, this collection is designed to play on the mind. 

Painted leaves create endless opportunities to play and challenge the viewer’s imagination. Delicate hints of pink tones hues lift from the chaos as dark midnight blues cools and calms the collection. Shadow becomes part of the main design, blending shapes and colours into one. Large shapes inspired by magnolia petals and big leafy greens are disguised with textural brush strokes that blend together moody blues. Smaller illustrated petals and stems bring depth to the layers and create the illusion.
